In 2005, the Japan Industrial Imaging Association gathered more than 20 promoters and began its activities when it began preparations for its establishment.
In April 2006, we formally established the Japan Industrial Imaging Association to promote standardization in the machine vision industry. We have been operating as a general incorporated association since the revision of the Intermediate Corporation Law. This year, 18 years have passed since the start of our activities.
Since its inception, we have established working groups for camera interfaces in the machine vision industry, working groups for camera protocols, and working groups for imaging technologies such as lighting, lens, and camera specifications. Subsequently, with the cooperation of the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Technology Research Institute (TIRI), we have regularly held high-speed transmission standards tests of the CoaXPress standard, established a cable and connector certification system, and conducted vibration tests in special environments. Thus, we have focused on promoting standardization of industry standards.
In 2009, as we recognized the importance of coordinating not only with the Japanese machine vision market but also with organizations similar to those in other countries, we signed an alliance, called Global 3 Agreement, with AIA (currently A3) in North America and EMVA in Europe, which had already been working on. As part of our industry standardization activities and promotional activities, we actively participated in conferences and exhibitions related to machine vision in Japan and overseas, and these activities have expanded worldwide. Subsequently, VDMA in Germany and CMVU in China joined the G3 in 2015 and 2019, respectively, to further promote global activities for industry standardization.
In the past few years, the importance of data obtained from machine vision technologies applied to multimedia has increased further as information communication network technologies have evolved.
In light of this trend, JIIA established the Global Standardization Advancement Committee within JIIA in 2021, and participated in the Telecommunication Technology Committee (TTC), an organization authorized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. JIIA established the Machine Vision Subworking Group (MV SWG) as a leader to create a more public venue for activities under the auspices of the Multimedia Application Committee in TTC.
Since 2022, based on the approval and recommendation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, as a member of the Japanese delegation of the International Telecommunication Union-Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T), one of the UN organizations headquartered in Geneva, JIIA has been promoting activities such as responding to contributions presented and proposed by Japan and abroad, centered on machine vision technology. In the near future, the standard from JIIA will be ratified by ITU-T.
As of the end of February 2023, more than 120 member companies have been cooperating with us from 20 member companies at the time of our establishment. We would like to thank the members who have joined us since then for their support.
In addition, I hope that the companies and industries that utilize machine vision technology will continue to have expectations for the future of machine vision technology, which will deepen in the future.
JIIA will continue to promote fair and impartial standardization technologies to contribute to the international community.
